It all starts with a lump of clay ...

Blue Vase

An award winning clay artist, Lisa designs and makes decorative pieces, sculptural works and functional pottery.

These artistic pieces employ various construction and glazing techniques. Red and/or white earthenware clay is what she uses for most of her work.

Functional, Decorative, Sculpted Pottery

Lisa's pottery is intended for use. It is lead-free, microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. You'll find all kinds of pieces to use for your home and garden:

  • Wall Sconces & Decorations, Hanging Plates and more
  • Pots, Vases, Decorative Bowls and Jugs
  • Coffee cups and mugs in a variety of styles
  • Serving platters and dishes, dinnerware and rice bowls
  • Sprites, Sprites and more sprites :-)

View the Finding Minnesota: Frog Creek Pottery which aired on WCCO TV on Sunday night, May 20th, 2007 on the 10 p.m. newscast!

What is a Sprite, anyway?

Lisa's faces, which she refers to as "Sprites" were influenced by the passing of her step mother.

(A Sprite brings peace and harmony to one's life ... so you can never have too many.)

oldman_lg.jpgWhen she discovered she could sculpt faces, she began to make faces of the people important to her. Her step mother's Sprite is sculpted from a photograph of her in her teens, with the leaves and flowers around her face in memory of her love of planting and the outdoors.

The bulbous nosed old man resembles her always happy father-in-law, Harry. Her neighbors have horses, and after spending time studying them, she sculpted them racing around the sides of a bowl (View this in our Pottery Gallery.)

Nimble Fingers Creating Works of Art

Lisa will tell you she gets the nibbleness in her fingers from her father, who was a professional magician. She thinks his quick fingers and whimsical personality must have rubbed off on her, because she loves to hide animals and other items in her pieces.

She says, "I enjoy seeing other people's expressions at art shows when they realize there is a cat or a turtle or some other creature peeking out at them. The ideas seem to come out of thin air - like magic."
